We have pollutions, soil erosion, global warming, flood, earthquakes, tsunami and a lot more.  Many people are more concerned of developing and converting some of our forests into industrial or commercial places. And because of this, we have various types of endangered species.

The different types of endangered species can be categorized into two, the animals and the plants.  Here are some of the animals and plants that are listed as endangered.

The Amphibians

  • Cape Platanna.  These types of endangered species are in the Southwestern Cape Province in South Africa.  It has smooth skin, a pointed head, strong webbed hind feet and usually dark colored.  Factors affecting the lost of these species include the change of water quality and change of vegetation.  Its interbreeding with a larger species also causes its being endangered.  The remaining species of about three hundred are in reserve parks.
  • Chinese Giant Salamander.  The North, Central, South and Southwest China are some locations where this specie can be found.  One of the reasons why these giant salamanders are decreasing in number is because of the capitalization on medicine and food.

Birds

  • Bald Eagle.  Bald eagle is known to be the American symbol and mostly can be found in Western Canada, Alaska and through other 48 states of America.  It has black-brown bodies with yellow beaks and legs.  Its head and tail are white, that’s why it has been cold the bald eagle.
  • Greater Flamingo.  These can be found in the Caribbean, Africa, Southwest Europe and Asia.  They are pink with a long neck and slender legs.  They live on shallow lakes.  The main reason why these animals are beginning to lose its breed is because of human disturbance. Some people are even stealing its eggs or actually eat the bird.
  • Ostrich.  Ostrich inhabit in open areas like deserts, semi-deserts and grassland.  These can be found in Africa.  They have white fluffy feathers and can run as fast as forty miles per hour.  These normally live in Arabian Peninsula and other areas in Africa.  However it extinction is due to some Africans who are capturing them for their wings and tails.

Fish

  • Atlantic salmon which is obviously living in Atlantic is also a type of species that are now being threatened. Its population is recorded at one hundred sixty adults.
  • Cutthroat Trout.  On August 9, 1996, it has been found out that cutthroat trout are becoming endangered.  This type of trout lives in Umpqua River.
  • Gulf Sturgeon.  This is also known as Gulf of Mexico Sturgeon.  It was on September 30, 1991, that this has been listed and considered as endangered.  It a large fish with extended snout, chin barbed, vertical mouth and upper lobe of the tail is longer.

Mammals

  • Grizzly Bear.  The western side of North America is the known place for this kind of bear.  Its color is brown and it has keen nose to sniff air to find its food.  It has sharp teeth being used to tear a meat and it has flat molars for plants.  Most of their habitats are taken away thus, slowly reducing their number.
  • Red Panda.  This live in the remote high-altitude of bamboo forests.    Their body have red brownish fur and the has patches with color white  These pandas are nocturnal which means they are active during night

Reptiles

  • Green Turtle. This has been listed to be endangered on July 28, 1978.  Its estimated population ranges from one hundred forty five to one thousand two hundred sixty six female that is now nesting in Florida.  Two hundred fourteen to seven hundred sixty eight are now in Hawaii.
  • Leatherback Turtle.  This was listed on June 2, 1970.

Another types of endangered species include some plants like Marsupella profunda, Ochyraea tatrensis, Sphaeropteris crinita and Spurceanthus theobromae are all listed as endangered species.

Almost every part of this world has various types of endangered species and it is good that there are many people who are now more concerned of saving the environment and preserve these endangered species.  You and I can play an important role in saving these extinct animals as well as some of the plants around us.

You may notice that the main reason for these types of endangered species is mainly because of lost of habitat.  Advancement, enhancement, development and alike are good, but let us also think of some of our animals and plants too.
